The National Weather Service has continued both the Winter Storm Warning and the Coastal Flood Advisory for our Borough through 1pm on Friday. During the overnight hours, between 4–8 inches of snow fell throughout Cape May County with about five to six inches in our community. Please exercise caution while driving during the morning commute. Snow is taping off to snow showers this morning and we will have clearing skies Friday afternoon. Be cautioned that the winds are expected to pick up with gusts out of the northwest at 40mph which will create wind chill values of about –6 during our evening hours. The winds could blow some snow back onto streets that have already been plowed.
We still have a Coastal Flood Advisory in effect. Minor to possibly moderate coastal flooding in flood prone areas is possible during time of high tide Friday morning, at 9:06am at the Townsend’s Inlet Bridge. The northwesterly winds will help keep tidal flooding down at time of high tide. Never attempt to drive on any street with standing water.
Local police have closed the Townsend’s Inlet Bridge between Avalon and Sea Isle City during the overnight hours. That bridge will reopen when it is safe to do so. The Avalon Free Public Library is closed on Friday, January 3rd. Many schools throughout Cape May County are closed today as well.
Please continue to monitor local media outlets for updates throughout the day.
