The National Weather Service has posted a Coastal Flood Watch for Stone Harbor and the Jersey Shore for Monday morning. The flood watch means that minor to perhaps moderate coastal flooding may be possible at time of high tide on Monday.

There is growing confidence in the meteorological community that a coastal storm will impact our region beginning Monday evening through Wednesday morning. There is a chance that moderate coastal flooding may occur at time of high tide throughout this storm event. Please pay close attention to the forecast over the next couple of days. Strong northeasterly winds combined with heavy rainfall may aggravate flooding concerns at the Jersey Shore. Streets that typically flood during these events may experience high water. Never attempt to drive on a street that is flooded as it puts you, your vehicle, and rescuers in danger. Monday’s weather will see an increase in clouds with showers at night; Tuesday, heavy rain and strong winds are expected to impact the Jersey shoreline.

Here are the upcoming high tides of concern; tides at the Townsend’s Inlet Bridge are as follows:

High tide Monday 8:50am, 9:20pm Tuesday 9:31am, 10:03pm

Continue to monitor the weather forecast on traditional local media outlets, and on this website. Here is the text of the Flood Watch as posted by the National Weather Service on Sunday evening:

Coastal Flood Watch remains in effect Monday morning…

* location… coastal sections of southern New Jersey and
Delaware.

* Coastal flooding… the potential for widespread minor to
moderate tidal flooding.

* Timing… around high tide Monday morning, which occurs between 8
am and 10 am, and later in many of the back bays.

* Outlook… Tuesday morning’s high tide cycle will see at least
minor coastal flooding and there is some potential for moderate
