Flooding

The National Weather Service has issued a Coastal Flood Advisory for the Borough of Stone Harbor for the evening of Thursday, May 5th, 2016.  The Advisory is in effect for this evening’s high tide which will occur at 7:47pm at the Townsend’s Inlet Bridge between Avalon and Sea Isle City.  Minor coastal flooding is expected at time of high tide.  It is possible that minor coastal flooding may impact some local flood-prone streets in the community.  Please exercise caution while driving this evening, and never attempt to drive on any street or through any intersection that is flooded.  This puts you, your vehicle and first responders at risk.

Here is the text of the Coastal Flood Advisory issued by the National Weather Service:

... Coastal Flood Advisory in effect from 6 PM this evening to  midnight EDT tonight...     The National Weather Service in Mount Holly has issued a coastal  Flood Advisory... which is in effect from 6 PM this evening to  midnight EDT tonight.    * Location... coastal areas of New Jersey coast and areas along Delaware    Bay.    * Coastal flooding... minor flooding is anticipated around the time    of this evenings high tide, probably more extensive than what    occurred Wednesday evening.     * Timing... high tide along the ocean front occurs generally between    630 PM and 730 PM but occurs later on the back bays and along    Delaware Bay.    * Surge... around 1 to 1.5 feet above the astronomical tide this evening.    * Waves... wave heights on the ocean waters off the coast generally    5 to 8 feet. Waves on the New Jersey side of Delaware Bay around    2 feet.    * Impacts... localized roadway flooding is anticipated. Some roads    may be closed due to high water.      Precautionary/preparedness actions...     A coastal Flood Advisory means that minor tidal flooding is  expected. Minor tidal flooding often results in some Road  closures. Usually... the most vulnerable roadways will flood.    Do not leave your vehicle at a location that is prone to tidal  flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flood waters. The  water may be deeper than you think it is. You will be putting  yourself in danger and your vehicle may be damaged... leading to  costly repairs.
