Sunday, February 12th, 4:22pm: High Wind Warning Issued By National Weather Service

The National Weather Service has posted a High Wind Warning for Stone Harbor and the remainder of Cape May County. This warning is in effect from midnight, Sunday, February 12th through 6:00pm on Monday, February 13th.

A storm system has left the area and now affecting New England. The passage of this storm means strong gusty winds will move into our region during the overnight hours and continue to be strong through Monday afternoon. Wind gusts could approach 50-60mph in our region. Secure any loose objects at your property that are prone to strong winds including patio furniture and trash cans. Strong winds may cause scattered power outages; if you have an outage, contact Atlantic City Electric directly at 1-800-833-7476. There is not expected to be any additional precipitation or coastal flooding.

High Wind Warning
Issued: 2:45 PM EST Feb. 12, 2017 – National Weather Service

… High Wind Warning in effect from midnight tonight to 6 PM EST
Monday…

The National Weather Service in Mount Holly has issued a High
Wind Warning… which is in effect from midnight tonight to 6 PM
EST Monday. The high wind watch is no longer in effect.

* Winds… northwest 25 to 35 mph with gusts 50 to 60 mph.

* Timing… the greatest potential for high winds will be late
tonight through about midday Monday. The winds will gradually
weaken Monday afternoon but strong gusts are still possible into
the evening hours.

* Impacts… strong winds may blow down limbs… trees… and power
lines. Scattered power outages are expected.

Precautionary/preparedness actions…

A High Wind Warning means a hazardous high wind event is expected
or occurring. Sustained wind speeds of at least 40 mph or gusts
of 58 mph or more can lead to property damage.

Wed, February 8th, 7:23am: Winter Weather Advisory Issued for Thursday

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for all of Cape May County for Thursday, February 9th. The Advisory is in effect between the hours of 8:00am and 2:00pm. There is the potential for one to four inches of snow for our region, but the expectation this morning is that the snowfall totals will be on the low end. There is also the potential for sleet during this storm event.

A winter storm will bring about a half foot of snow to the Philadelphia region. At the Jersey Shore, there will be some rain associated with this system and it may change to sleet and some snow. Windy conditions are expected with northwesterly winds gusting to as high as 40mph. If you have to travel north and west of our region, be advised heavier snowfall amounts are expected outside of Cape May County. There is even the potential for a thunderstorm in our region during the early morning hours on Thursday.

THURSDAY…

The National Weather Service in Mount Holly has issued a Winter
Weather Advisory for snow…which is in effect from 8 AM to 2 PM
EST Thursday.

* LOCATIONS…a portion of northeast Maryland through central
Delaware into the southern tip of New Jersey.

* HAZARD TYPES…snow and possibly a period of sleet.

* ACCUMULATIONS…Snow accumulation of 1 to 4 inches.

* VISIBILITIES…One quarter mile or less at times during the
morning.

* TIMING…heaviest snow should fall sometime between 8 am and
Noon.

* IMPACTS…The snow will create snow covered roads and possibly
produce isolated power outages. Gusty winds may lead to blowing
snow and reduced visibility.

* WINDS…North 20 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph becoming
northwest by Noon.

* TEMPERATURES…falling to near 30 during the snow then
recovering slightly during the afternoon.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

A Winter Weather Advisory for snow means that periods of snow
will cause primarily travel difficulties. Be prepared for snow
covered roads and limited visibilities…and use caution while
driving.
