Stone Harbor Closes Municipal Buildings March 5th, Snowstorm

Stone Harbor Mayor Suzanne Walters announced on Wednesday, March 4th at 4:00pm that all municipal buildings in Stone Harbor will be closed on Thursday, March 5th, 2015 due to the winter storm.  Regular business will resume on Friday.

Winter Storm Warning for Thurs, March 5th; 4-9″ of Snow Possible

The National Weather Ser­vice has posted a Win­ter Storm Warn­ing for the Bor­ough of Stone Harbor for Thurs­day, March 5th. The warn­ing is in effect Wednes­day at 11pm through Thurs­day at 7pm. There is the like­li­hood of accu­mu­lat­ing snow for our com­mu­nity that could range any­where from four to nine inches of snow.

A win­ter storm is inch­ing closer to our region. In advance of the storm, tem­per­a­tures will be in the 40s dur­ing the day­time on Wednes­day before turn­ing colder at night. Rain asso­ci­ated with the approach­ing storm front is expected to change over to sleet and pos­si­bly freez­ing rain dur­ing the late night and early morn­ing hours. This pre­cip­i­ta­tion will even­tu­ally tran­si­tion into an all snow event on Thurs­day morn­ing towards day­break. Snow is expected to con­tinue through the morn­ing and part of the afternoon.

Snow­fall pre­dic­tions may change dur­ing this snow event. Exer­cise cau­tion while dri­ving late Wednes­day night and through­out the day on Thurs­day into Thurs­day evening. Fol­low­ing this storm will be cold con­di­tions Thurs­day night and Fri­day with wind chills below zero before a warmup dur­ing the weekend.

Win­ter Storm Warn­ing remains in effect from 11 PM this evening
to 7 PM EST Thursday…

* haz­ard types… a steady accu­mu­lat­ing snow, pos­si­bly heavy at
times, from late tonight into Thursday.

* Snow accu­mu­la­tions… the poten­tial for 5 to 9 inches.

* Tim­ing… rain will change to snow overnight and the snow will
con­tinue into Thursday.

* Impacts… wide­spread and sub­stan­tial impacts on travel are
expected for late tonight and Thursday.

Precautionary/preparedness actions…

This Win­ter Storm Warn­ing means that sig­nif­i­cant amounts of
snow are expected. The snow will make travel very haz­ardous or
impossible.
