MONDAY, JULY 22ND: COASTAL FLOOD ADVISORY POSTED FOR STONE HARBOR

FloodingThe National Weather Ser­vice has posted a Coastal Flood Advi­sory for Stone Harbor and sur­round­ing coastal com­mu­ni­ties on Mon­day, July 22nd, from 7:00pm until 11:00pm.  The advi­sory is in effect for the next high tide event that will take place at the Townsend’s Inlet Bridge between Avalon and Sea Isle City at 8:34pm.  Never attempt to drive through any stand­ing water on a road­way.  It is pos­si­ble any coastal flood­ing may be com­pounded by a thun­der­storm, if it arrives this evening.

… Coastal Flood Advi­sory in effect from 7 PM to 11 PM EDT this evening…

The National Weather Ser­vice in Mount Holly has issued a coastal Flood Advi­sory. It is in effect from 700 PM until 1100 PM this evening.

* Loca­tion… coastal areas of New Jer­sey and Delaware includ­ing Delaware Bay.

* Coastal flood­ing… minor flood­ing is expected around this evening’s high tide.

* Tim­ing… high tide on the New Jer­sey and Delaware ocean­front occurs around 800 PM. High tide on the back bays, along Delaware Bay and along Rar­i­tan Bay occurs later than the high tide on the oceanfront.

* Impacts… local­ized road­way flood­ing is anticipated.

Precautionary/preparedness actions…

A coastal Flood Advi­sory indi­cates that minor tidal flood­ing is antic­i­pated. Minor tidal flood­ing often results in some Road clo­sures. Usu­ally, the most vul­ner­a­ble road­ways will flood.

Heat Wave graphicThe National Weather Ser­vice pre­dicts that the cur­rent heat wave involv­ing all of South Jer­sey will con­tinue until Sat­ur­day, July 20th when a cold front is expected to move through our region and cool tem­per­a­tures.  Tem­per­a­tures in Stone Harbor are expected to reach the mid 90s Thurs­day through Sat­ur­day until the front approaches on Sat­ur­day.  You are asked to take all nec­es­sary pre­cau­tions dur­ing this heat wave, includ­ing lim­it­ing your expo­sure out­doors as much as pos­si­ble, and remain­ing hydrated.  Please check on pets and elderly neigh­bors when pos­si­ble.  Never leave a human or a pet inside a locked car with the win­dows up dur­ing a heat wave.  If you have an emer­gency, please dial 9–1-1.

* HEAT INDEX VALUES…UP TO 105 DEGREES.

* HIGH TEMPERATURES…IN THE MID TO UPPER 90S.

* TIMING…THE HIGHEST HEAT INDICES WILL OCCUR BETWEEN 1 PM AND   6 PM.

* IMPACTS…THE HEAT WILL CREATE DANGEROUS CONDITIONS… ESPECIALLY FOR THOSE WORKING IN THE SUN…OR LIVING IN NON AIR CONDITIONED HOMES. THE MOST ADVERSELY AFFECTED ARE YOUNG CHILDREN AND ADULTS OVER 50. LEAVING ANYONE…INCLUDING PETS AND CHILDREN…IN NON AIR CONDITIONED CARS DURING THE DAY IS VERY DANGEROUS AND QUICKLY CAN BECOME FATAL.

* OUTLOOK…THIS HEAT IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE INTO SATURDAY… AND ADDITIONAL ADVISORIES MAY BE NEEDED.
